This is the first Rhinogobius that spawned for me, but not the first that I acquired from Rob McAllister. In subsequent years I raised and sold dozens of these, and I still see people in the local club selling them from time to time so they must be spawning for them as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mine spawned under a terracotta saucer, the same setup that I’ve used for all the Rhinogobius that I’ve kept. Spawns were large, and fry were unusual in that they were fully freshwater and large enough to eat bbs on hatching, but did not act like baby gobies — they spent several weeks swimming around in the water column before settling and losing buoyancy. This must be a transitional step between the anadromous species and the fully freshwater inland species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
