{"id":212,"date":"2007-12-27T20:54:25","date_gmt":"2007-12-28T02:54:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/?p=212"},"modified":"2007-12-27T20:54:25","modified_gmt":"2007-12-28T02:54:25","slug":"1-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/?p=212","title":{"rendered":"$1 Tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/tour1.jpg\" title=\"tour1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/tour1.jpg\" alt=\"tour1.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My camera is in the shop, after only two weeks of proper functioning. \u00a0On the plus side, the service center here is happy to honor my Japanese warranty &#8212; but, on the minus side they require a \u2018Warranty Card\u2019 which I either never got or immediately threw away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px; text-decoration: none\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px\">My GPS led me on a big wild-goose chase in search of the camera shop. \u00a0I was looking for 3791 Jalan Bukit Merah, so I took a train to the general area but immediately discovered that I was in the \u2018120\u2019 block of Bukit Merah. \u00a0So, I switched on the GPS and it directed me far, far down the road. \u00a0After a couple of miles of walking and bussing I wound up at the intersection that the GPS was pointing at, which turned out to be the \u2018110\u2019 block of Bukit Merah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px; text-decoration: none\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px\">So, in defeat, I flagged a cab, and tried to tell him where I was going &#8212; I kept saying \u2018E Center\u2019 and the cab driver said \u2018B Center?\u2019 and we went back and forth and finally I held up my PDA with the address on it and he said, \u201cI can\u2019t see, so you\u2019ll have to shout it out,\u201d and pulled into traffic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px; text-decoration: none\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px\">He drove pretty well, for a blind guy. \u00a0Dropped me off at ECenter, 3791 Jalan Bukit Merah, which was next door to 121 Jalan Bukit Merah, where I\u2019d started out. \u00a0Hi-larious.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px; text-decoration: none\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px\">But, anyway, on my wild goose chase I was compelled to ride a double-decker bus, and that reminded me of how great they are. \u00a0So just now (an hour or so ago) I hopped on another one at random, figuring that it would eventually terminate at a train station. \u00a0The above photo is me enjoying the panoramic view from the front, top row of the bus &#8212; very nice for sight-seeing and, as a bonus, the onboard TVs are turned off tonight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px; text-decoration: none\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph Body\" style=\"line-height: 20px\"><span>This is turning into quite a long tour &#8212; so far I\u2019ve seen a whole lot of the Central Seafood Processing Center, and a nearly endless supply of tower cranes, and for a moment there we were heading towards the causeway to <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jurong_Island\" title=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jurong_Island\">Jurong Island<\/a><span> which is this sort of man-made industrial super-villain lair which does not permit entry by normal humans, so that gave me a bit of a scare. \u00a0Oh!
