{"id":573,"date":"2008-12-27T14:23:53","date_gmt":"2008-12-27T20:23:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/2008\/12\/27\/snows\/"},"modified":"2008-12-27T14:23:53","modified_gmt":"2008-12-27T20:23:53","slug":"snows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/?p=573","title":{"rendered":"Snow&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/snows4.jpg\" alt=\"Snows4\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Having only just read about Snow&#8217;s Barbecue, I clamored for a visit &#8212; it;s only a bit outside of Austin (by Texas standards, at least.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/snows1.jpg\" alt=\"Snow\u2019s BBQ\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I felt like a real Yankee Poseur coming out here &#8212; visiting a country smoke shack because I read about it in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/reporting\/2008\/11\/24\/081124fa_fact_trillin?currentPage=all\">New Yorker<\/a>.\u00a0 They didn&#8217;t seem to mind the business, though, and I certainly wasn&#8217;t out on a limb.\u00a0 Sitting at our table was a law professor (Dale Carpenter) from the University of Minnesota.\u00a0 And, when heading out we got caught in a mini traffic jam outside the shop, and directly in front of our minivan were two roundish guys with goatees in an XJ8.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/snows2.jpg\" alt=\"Snows2\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/snows3.jpg\" alt=\"Snows3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Snow&#8217;s is only open on Saturday mornings.\u00a0 They start serving at 8AM and close when the food runs out.\u00a0 We got there at 10:30AM and they were already out of ribs and beans.\u00a0 They do not appear to be taking this opportunity to gouge&#8230;\u00a0 This pile of food (more than enough for two people, plus leftovers) cost less than $20.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/snows4.jpg\" alt=\"Snows4\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Well&#8230; I say &#8216;leftovers&#8217; but really we just ate it all and drove off in a stupor.\u00a0 A giant sausage, half a chicken, and a pound or so of pork butt.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know a thing about Texas barbecue, so I can&#8217;t speak in relative terms.\u00a0 The chicken was salty and mustardy on the inside of the breast, which seems semi-impossible.\u00a0 The sausage was unlike any I&#8217;ve ever had &#8212; very crumbly and dry.\u00a0 This may not be what they were going for, judging from the murmering of those around us, but I found it to be about the best thing I&#8217;ve eaten in weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The Bennigan&#8217;s next to our hotel is out of business and shuttered.\u00a0 So, perhaps justice still rules in this part of the state.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/snows5.jpg\" alt=\"Snow\u2019s 5\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(Aidan, alas, is in a phase of eating only chicken nuggets and jellybread sandwiches.\u00a0 So he rolled around in the dirt for the duration of our meal, and is now in the tub.)<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/snows6.jpg\" alt=\"Snow\u2019s6\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Having only just read about Snow&#8217;s Barbecue, I clamored for a visit &#8212; it;s only a bit outside of Austin (by Texas standards, at least.)
