{"id":588,"date":"2009-01-01T19:51:49","date_gmt":"2009-01-02T01:51:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/2009\/01\/01\/first-night\/"},"modified":"2009-01-01T19:51:49","modified_gmt":"2009-01-02T01:51:49","slug":"first-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/?p=588","title":{"rendered":"First Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night we walked around downtown Austin to see some of the New Year festivities.\u00a0 Someone-or-other built a giant beautiful wooden clockwork to count down the last few days of the year.\u00a0 Lots of people crowded around it to write resolutions or generally contribute personal graffiti.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clock1.jpg\" alt=\"clock1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clock2.jpg\" alt=\"Clock2\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clock3.jpg\" alt=\"clock3\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clock4.jpg\" alt=\"clock4\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clock5.jpg\" alt=\"clock5\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After we paced around in the dust for a long time, the action started to pick up.\u00a0 There was a performance from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bcaf9Qb4ncA&amp;\">ArcAttack<\/a>, guys who really know how to do things the hard way.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/arcattack.jpg\" alt=\"arc attack\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And there was also a psychadelic-type dance tent which was frequented primarily by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dh8529xREbo\">small children<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, around 8:30 (they adjusted the time to make sure midnight arrived at a child-friendly hour), the main event.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clockburn1.jpg\" alt=\"Clock Burn1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clockburn2.jpg\" alt=\"Clock Burn2\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clockburn3.jpg\" alt=\"Clock Burn3\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clockburn4.jpg\" alt=\"Clock Burn4\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/clockburn5.jpg\" alt=\"Clock Burn5\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The fire was very hot, and very close.\u00a0 Several times little vortices sucked up clouds of cinders and rained them down on the crowd&#8230;
