{"id":892,"date":"2010-03-06T10:12:23","date_gmt":"2010-03-06T16:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/2010\/03\/06\/kellies-castle\/"},"modified":"2010-03-06T10:12:23","modified_gmt":"2010-03-06T16:12:23","slug":"kellies-castle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/?p=892","title":{"rendered":"Kellie&#8217;s Castle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The day before yesterday I hired a car to drive me out to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kellie%27s_Castle\">Kellie&#8217;s Castle<\/a>&#8220;, the ruins of a hundred-year-old colonial estate.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/kelliescastle1.jpg\" alt=\"kelliescastle1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was both more modest, and less ruined than I expected.\u00a0 Even though it was built in the 1920&#8217;s and intended as a residence, the construction is like a medieval fortress.\u00a0 It&#8217;s going to be here for a long time.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/kelliescastle3.jpg\" alt=\"kelliescastle3.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/kelliescastle4.jpg\" alt=\"kelliescastle4.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/morekelliescastle1.jpg\" alt=\"morekelliescastle1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The whole place is deeply paranoid.\u00a0 In addition to having those crazy walls and a tower with arrow slits (which could all be about historic charm) there are also countless escape routes, including a tunnel to a neighboring temple.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s probably some sort of lesson about colonial guilt\/fear going on here.\u00a0 But, hey Kellie, maybe if you wouldn&#8217;t make people haul a castle&#8217;s worth of bricks and imported marble all the way from Penang they wouldn&#8217;t be in such a hurry to string you up.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/morekelliescastle2.jpg\" alt=\"morekelliescastle2.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/morekelliescastle3.jpg\" alt=\"morekelliescastle3.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/morekelliescastle4.jpg\" alt=\"morekelliescastle4.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/morekelliescastle5.jpg\" alt=\"morekelliescastle5.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bogott.net\/unspecified\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/morekelliescastle61.jpg\" alt=\"morekelliescastle61.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The day before yesterday I hired a car to drive me out to &#8220;Kellie&#8217;s Castle&#8220;, the ruins of a hundred-year-old colonial estate.
