These photos are from 2011 when digital cameras were not so good. I got this pair from Tony at The Betta Shop, a short-lived but nice specialty store in St. Paul. I traded him loads of crystal red shrimp in exchange for these wild bettas plus a steady supply of blackworms.
The fish were in an unfiltered unlit 5.5 gallon tank on a high shelf where it was very warm, probably mid-80’s. They spawned pretty much right away; the fry were not especially numerous but easy to feed and grew up quickly.
