I started with young tank-raised fish from Brian Martineau of the Parosphromenus Genetic Resource Center. They matured quickly and spawned as soon as I raised the temperature in the fish room.
As with others in the genus, they are in pure RO water supplemented with alder cones, coir, and oak leaves. Despite all this the tank is running with a pH a bit above neutral; that didn’t prevent them from spawning several times and producing a tiny bubblenest and a handful of fry in a small pvc cave.
I collected one group of fry by removing the cave w/fry into a separate box and letting them hatch out and exit the cave on their own. A second time I accidentally tipped the cave and the eggs floated out. Many of they hatched after this disturbance but the fry seemed to do better when left alone in their nest.
This is one of the most commonly imported and kept Parosphromenus but mine are extremely shy. I have a coir mat in their tank and they spend essentially all their time underneath it; I never see the adults unless I intentionally poke around looking. One young has survived and grown up alongside the parents and it is much bolder, generally out where I can see it.
