I’m pretty sure I’ve kept this species twice; the first time the spawn had some albino fry in it, and some other breeders with the same strain suspected that it was a hybrid with a domestic ancistrus. This last time when I re-acquired adults they bred true producing all brown fry.

I cared for these as I would for a domestic bristle-nose catfish; they mostly ate spirulina tablets and ‘bug bites pleco sticks’. Because they’re so small as adults, the spawn took me by surprise and the first I knew of it was a wriggling mass of eggs in a terracotta cave.

The adults spawned in tank that also contained Macropodus so I dumped the fry into a german ring breeder and continued to feed algae tablets. The survival rate was high and the fry grew quickly.
