Dee and I just got back from a 9 day trip in Vietnam. I didn’t have my laptop along, so a big dump of photos will follow. First, food:
- Banh mi came on the freshest bread ever, delivered multiple times per day
- Lotus root salad
- This green was called ‘Morning Glory’ in Vietnam — it seems to be the same plant as kang kong or water spinach or hollow heart, but what we got in Vietnam was much tenderer.
- Bánh xèo
- Egg coffee in Hanoi
- Pomelo Salad at ‘Morning Glory’ restaurant in Hoi An
- Bánh bao bánh vạc in Hoi An
- Cao lầu in Hoi An
- Ca nuong gnhe (steamed mackeral)
- Mango danish from ‘Cargo’ in Hoi An
- Quail egg fritters, street food in Hoi An
- Taro cake, Pho ga, papaya salad, Saigon
- Durian and cane juice at a street stand in Cu Chi (suburban Saigon)
- Hen Xuc Banh Trang at a Hue-style restaurant in Saigon. Tiny clams on rice crackers.
- ‘Vietnamese cherry’ juice which I think was actually rose apple. I saw more bendy straws and swizzle sticks in Vietnam than I’d seen in my life up until last week.
- Big snails! At Nha Hong Ngon in Saigon. Not my favorite.
